We tailor the process to fiber, dyes, and construction so your rug is cleaned safely and correctly.
How We Clean Rugs
Rugs need gentle handling. We tailor the process to fiber type, dyes, age, and condition.
Dye & Fiber Testing
We check color stability and fiber sensitivity first—especially important for wool and silk rugs.
Deep Dust Removal
We remove dry soil before washing to reduce abrasion and protect the rug’s foundation and pile.
Rinse + Controlled Drying
A thorough rinse and controlled drying reduce residue, odors, and the risk of browning or dye bleed.
Pet Urine Stain & Odor Removal for Rugs
Pet urine can soak into the rug foundation and padding, creating stubborn odor that returns after surface cleaning. Our process targets contamination at the source.
What To Expect
We work on wool, silk, Persian, and Oriental rugs using fiber-safe methods. If contamination is severe, multiple treatments may be required.

Gentle Care for Your Hand-Knotted Rugs
Hand-knotted rugs are delicate works of art made with natural fibers and dyes. Standard carpet cleaning methods may not be appropriate for these rugs.
- No steam cleaning. We avoid high heat and pressure that can damage wool and silk.
- No harsh chemicals. We use mild, fiber-safe cleaning products.
- Cool-water hand washing. Helps preserve color, softness, and longevity.

Service Policies
Our service policies are designed to provide clear expectations for professional rug cleaning, repair, pickup, delivery, installation, and related services.
×Rug Condition & Pre-Existing Damage
Velvet Knot takes reasonable care when cleaning and handling rugs. However, professional cleaning may reveal or worsen pre-existing conditions already present in a rug, including weakened fibers, dry rot, worn foundations, damaged fringe, thinning, prior repairs, pet-related damage, color instability, deterioration, or other structural weaknesses.
Velvet Knot is not responsible for deterioration resulting from pre-existing conditions or weaknesses that could not reasonably be identified before service.
Stains, Odors & Discoloration
While we make every reasonable effort to improve stains, odors, discoloration, pet contamination, and other affected areas, complete removal cannot be guaranteed.
Some stains, odors, dye changes, chemical damage, sun fading, pet contamination, and permanent discoloration may remain after professional cleaning.
Inspection, Estimates & Additional Work
Estimates are based on the information and visible conditions available at the time of evaluation.
Hidden contamination, structural damage, unusual staining, dye instability, prior treatments, or other conditions discovered after a rug is received may require additional care.
When significant additional services or charges are recommended, Velvet Knot will make reasonable efforts to obtain customer approval before proceeding.
Customer Disclosure
Customers are encouraged to disclose known pet urine, pet accidents, moth or insect activity, mold or mildew, water damage, chemical treatments, prior repairs, weakened areas, unusual stains, or other known conditions before cleaning.
Special-Order Materials
Custom-cut rug pads, specialty materials, replacement materials, and other items ordered specifically for a customer may be considered special-order items.
Once ordered, cut, or prepared, special-order items may be non-cancelable and non-refundable.
Delivery & Installation Appointments
Customers are responsible for ensuring that an adult or authorized representative is available during a confirmed pickup, delivery, or installation appointment and that reasonable access to the property is available.
If our team arrives for a confirmed appointment and access is unavailable, no authorized person is present, or the appointment cannot be completed for reasons outside Velvet Knot’s control, the appointment may be considered missed and will need to be rescheduled.
Missed Appointments & Redelivery
Customers are responsible for ensuring that an adult or authorized representative is available during a confirmed pickup, delivery, or installation appointment and that reasonable access to the property is available.
If Velvet Knot arrives for a confirmed appointment and access is unavailable, no authorized person is present, or the appointment cannot be completed for reasons outside Velvet Knot’s control, the appointment may be considered missed.
A missed appointment may be subject to an additional delivery, redelivery, pickup, or service-call fee. Any applicable fee will be disclosed before the next appointment is scheduled.
Velvet Knot may require all outstanding balances to be paid before rescheduling and may require advance payment for future services following a missed appointment.
Rescheduling
We ask customers to provide reasonable advance notice when changing a scheduled pickup, delivery, or installation appointment.
Whenever possible, at least 24–48 hours’ notice is appreciated so our team can adjust the schedule and accommodate other customers.
Payment
Full payment is due upon completion of service unless another arrangement has been agreed to in writing by Velvet Knot.
For services involving delivery, installation, special-order materials, or a previously missed appointment, Velvet Knot may require payment before or at the time of delivery or installation.
Outstanding balances may be required to be paid before additional delivery, installation, pickup, or other services are scheduled.
Future Service & Advance Payment
Velvet Knot reserves the right to require full or partial payment in advance before accepting, scheduling, picking up, or beginning a future service.
Advance payment may be required based on prior missed appointments, repeated rescheduling, outstanding or previously delayed balances, special-order materials, or other circumstances that create additional scheduling, administrative, delivery, or service costs.
When advance payment is required, the customer will be informed before the new service is scheduled or accepted.
A customer with a prior missed delivery, pickup, or installation appointment may be required to pay the full balance for a new order before Velvet Knot picks up the rugs or begins service.
Completed Rugs & Storage
Once a customer has been notified that a rug is completed and ready for pickup, delivery, or installation, arrangements should be made within a reasonable period.
Rugs remaining unclaimed for more than 30 days after notification may be subject to storage fees.
Rugs that remain unclaimed for an extended period may be handled in accordance with applicable law regarding unpaid services, storage, and customer property.
Turnaround Times
Any estimated completion date is an estimate rather than a guarantee.
Additional drying time, specialty stain or odor treatment, repairs, weather conditions, material availability, or conditions discovered during cleaning may affect turnaround time.
High-Value, Antique & Heirloom Rugs
Customers should inform Velvet Knot before service if a rug is known to be unusually valuable, collectible, antique, historically significant, or an important family heirloom.
This information helps us evaluate whether additional inspection or special handling may be appropriate.
Right to Decline or Stop Service
Velvet Knot may decline, modify, or discontinue a cleaning or restoration process if we determine that continuing the service could create an unreasonable risk of damage to the rug.
Questions or Concerns
If you have a concern regarding a completed service, please contact Velvet Knot promptly so we have an opportunity to review the rug and address the matter appropriately.
